{Frequently Asked Questions}

1. HOW IS THE WISDOM METHOD FOUNDATIONS YOGA TRAINING DIFFERENT FROM OTHER YOGA TRAININGS?

In addition to our emphasis on healthy lifestyle, the Wisdom Method approach will provide you with a solid foundation in yoga as therapy. Not only will this allow you to tailor yoga to your own ever-evolving needs, it will allow you to develop customized private and group sessions that meet students where they are. This skill alone will set you apart many other yoga teachers who are only taught to teach a core set of classes.

Our school shines in the area of yoga anatomy. The director, Kellie Adkins, is a passionate anatomy teacher and strives to make the practice of yoga plus the practical application of anatomy engaging, fun, and inspiring. You will learn the HOW and WHY of alignment, sequencing, and contraindications rather than just memorizing rules!

Another unique point about this training is the emphasis on personal development and truly living your yoga. We will dive deep into Ayurveda, yoga philosophy, and self-development practices that will enrich your life outside the yoga studio, too.

Finally, our training –indeed, our entire school– is collaborative, supportive, and includes professional mentorship. We take our responsibility to the yoga profession seriously and we want you to succeed as a yoga teacher! As such, we encourage active participation in our private alums + trainee-only forum, we require a mentored apprenticeship with an approved teacher, and we provide valuable information in training designed to set you up for success as a full or part-time yoga teacher.

2. CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE IF I DON’T WANT TO TEACH YOGA?

Absolutely. Regardless of whether you decide to teach, this course will give you the confidence to apply all the areas of yoga –mindfulness, movement, breathing, and lifestyle — throughout your life for both healing and realization. Additionally, it will help you prevent common injuries which arise from poor movement habits on the mat. Of course, we would love for you to share yoga as a teacher…but only if you want!

3. WHAT IS ‘WISDOM METHOD YOGA’ {AKA, WHAT STYLE IS IT?}

Wisdom Method yoga is an integrative blend of the Krishnamacharya yoga lineages: alignment {Iyengar}, flow {Ashtanga}, therapeutic {Desikachar}, and classical yoga {self-study and mindfulness}. In addition, our training emphasizes appropriate biomechanics in movement, tailoring classes to each individual body, and creating lifelong healthy habits: from movement to outlook to nutrition practices.

The Wisdom Method approach is informed by the director, Kellie Adkins,’ 15 years of study in the yogic arts and Eastern religions and her equally intense study in Western anatomy and movement.

4. HOW DO I KNOW WISDOM METHOD YOGA IS FOR ME?

The Wisdom Method Introduction to Yoga Therapy program is for you if you are ready to

*Tune into your innate capacity for healing

*Grow your practice

*Change your life, for the better

*Open yourself to a supportive community of like-minded individuals

*Improve your practice skills

*Apply some of the deeper, lifestyle practices of the yoga tradition

*Enrich your teaching skills and provide safer, more fulfilling yoga classes

5. DO I HAVE TO BE A ROCK-STAR YOGI?

The short answer is No; however, some practice experience is recommended. The practice sessions are tailored to your unique body so you will be encouraged to work at your capacity and challenge yourself when appropriate. We recommend that you have at least 3 months experience before joining the training

6. CAN I PARTICIPATE IF I AM ALREADY A CERTIFIED YOGA TEACHER?

Absolutely! In fact, we would be delighted to welcome you into the program. Many of our graduates had previous yoga trainings and wanted to deepen their understanding of the topics covered in the Wisdom Method Foundations training: Ayurveda, anatomy, lifestyle, mindfulness.

7. WHAT DOES A TYPICAL TRAINING DAY ENTAIL?

A typical day entails meditation in the morning and end of the day, 1-2 practice sessions, 1-2 lecture sessions, and a 1 hour lunch break. We generally meet from 9a- 7 p.

8. IS THERE A PAYMENT PLAN OPTION?

We have a variety of payment options, including a deferred payment plan {through PayPal}. We would be happy to work with you to devise a plan that fits your budget.

9. WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TO MISS A WEEKEND?

First, relax! We know that life happens and sometimes situations out of our control arise. That said, please understand that your enrollment -and all fees paid- are for a SPECIFIC PROGRAM, AT A SPECIFIC LOCATION, FOR A SPECIFIC MEASURE OF TIME. You will be provided with a make-up opportunity (preferably within the same training); however, you will be responsible for any additional training fees at the rate of $20 per contact hour. MAKE-UP FEES APPLY TO EVERYONE: THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.

10. WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TO MISS MORE THAN 1 WEEKEND?

If you know -in advance- that you cannot attend more than 1 weekend of training, we request that you take the training at a later date instead. It is too difficult to ensure your learning remains on track and it disrupts the continuity of the group. Timing is everything! Please check our additional training times and dates.
