{Abstract}

Divided into five inter-related workshops, spanning 25 hours, the Anatomy for Yoga Teachers course covers the major systems, major muscle groups, and anatomy fundamentals as they relate to the practice of yoga asana, pranayama, and mindfulness. In addition to the Western anatomical concepts, subtle energetics of anatomy will also be covered. This integrative glimpse into anatomy is highly recommended for all Yoga Teachers particularly those interested in continuing their studies in the Wisdom Method Yoga therapy programs. Yoga enthusiasts and other fitness professionals are welcome to attend.

No prior anatomy experience is assumed.

{Full Course Learning Objectives}

  • How to decipher the language of anatomy for more effective cues
  • The major systems of the body and how they relate to the practice of yoga
  • The major joints of the body and how they function in the context of yoga practice
  • The primary muscle groups and how they function in the context of a yoga practice
  • Relationships between muscle groups and how that can inform sequencing
  • The use of skeletal alignment to reduce muscular effort within postures
  • The neuromuscular feedback system and how this relates to stretching and strengthening
  • The relationship between the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton
  • The WHY of contraindications and the basics of addressing injury on the mat
  • Appropriate biomechanics and individual anatomical variations 

 

{Tuition + Schedule}

The course is offered as continuing education for certified yoga teachers, yoga enthusiasts, movement instructors, personal trainers, and those interested in attending the Wisdom Method Yoga therapy programs.

Tuition is due no later than January 5, 2015. Early registration is encouraged as this lecture series is part of a 200-hour training and space is limited. A late fee of $25 per week will be added to past-due invoices.

As part of the Anatomy for Yoga Teachers course, you will be provided with a syllabus and a reading list for the course (by February 15). Although there is no required reading for the course, we will provide you with a recommended reading list and access to our complementary Anatomy for Yoga teachers private forum. You will be able to ask questions between sessions and to find an accountability partner or study buddy. Please bring a yoga mat, towel, notebook and something to write with to all lectures. Refunds or transfers are not provided for workshop fees.

The course will meet one Friday and 4 Saturdays, from 2-7 pm at Full Circle Yoga, Winter Park, FL.
